Assetto Corsa EVO’s Free Roam mode is approaching its first public hands-on outing. In its October 7 announcement, Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games describe a recreation of Germany’s Eifel region, with playable demonstrations at Sim Racing Expo in Frankfurt from October 16–18.
What Kunos has confirmed
The intended setting extends beyond the circuit into nearby roads and villages. Kunos describes a 1:1 environment, an initial area around the Nordschleife that will expand over time, changing weather, day/night conditions and AI traffic. Solo and multiplayer exploration are part of the announced feature set, alongside optional activities such as Time Attack.
Marco Massarutto is scheduled to introduce Free Roam on the Expo’s main stage on October 16 at 4 p.m. CEST. Public demo stations are also planned. An exhibition demo is not the same as a downloadable update: the cited announcement does not provide a public release date.
A&E’s take: a different kind of driving session
The appeal for us is the chance to enjoy a car without every minute being measured against a lap timer. Some evenings call for a qualifying run. Others call for finding a good road, choosing a car for its character and seeing where the drive takes you.
That could make Free Roam a natural fit for relaxed community sessions and driving streams. It would also give us a different setting for conversations about cars, setups and the work happening around A&E. Those are possibilities we want to explore, rather than a stream announcement or a claim based on hands-on experience.
What we want to learn at the Expo
Our first questions are practical. How comfortable is it to navigate? Does traffic support the drive without constantly interrupting it? How straightforward is joining friends? And does the experience remain enjoyable when you stop chasing an objective and simply follow the road?
We will also be looking for a clear explanation of what belongs to the first release and what is intended for later expansion. A demonstration can communicate a direction beautifully while still leaving important questions about the version players will receive.
For now, Frankfurt is the next checkpoint. We will follow confirmed announcements from the event and update release coverage when Kunos supplies a date. We have not played this build, so this is a preview of the announcement, not a review.
